Description

The individual is an adult with a long-standing learning disability as well as ADHD and Autism. They may need information explained clearly and simply, and benefit from gentle support with daily tasks. They have their own car but may need guidance when travelling to new places. They enjoy spending time outdoors, walking a dog, visiting the seaside, fishing and kayaking. They would welcome support with social activities and opportunities to reduce loneliness. Assistance may also be needed with household tasks, including tidying, preparing meals, keeping track of appointments and taking medication. They sometimes find numbers and daily routines challenging, so patient and reliable support is important.

Personal attributes and experience

Patient, calm and understanding

Able to offer kind and supportive guidance

Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, ADHD or Autism is desirable

Clear and empathetic communication skills, able to simplify and repeat information when needed

Physically fit and happy to take part in outdoor activities

Able to cook simple varied meals

Organised and able to support with appointments and medication prompts

Driving licence required

Owning a vehicle is desirable

Key responsibilities

Supporting social activities, including nature walks, seaside visits, fishing and kayaking

Encouraging community engagement and helping reduce loneliness

Assisting with travel and providing clear guidance to new places

Helping with meal preparation and maintaining a tidy home

Supporting diary management, hospital appointments and medication reminders

Offering reassurance and helping manage any confusion in a calm and supportive way

Encouraging safe coping strategies and providing consistent, friendly support

Essential requirements

Great communication skills

Flexibility & adaptability to adapt to changing demands or unexpected situations

Proof of self-employment in the UK, insurance & DBS check

Relevant Training/Qualifications

Data Protection and Confidentiality – follows UK GDPR regulations
